Find Out What Sort of Editing You Need

There are four levels of book editing. These levels begin at high-concept ideas (like purpose or plot) and gradually narrow focus down to the tiniest details (like punctuation and spelling). These four levels are:

  1. Developmental editing (or book coaching)
  2. Substantive editing (or line editing)
  3. Copyediting
  4. Proofreading

These four types of editing represent the progress of the book editing process.

I've created a short series of simple yes/no questions to make that question-and-answer process as quick and easy as possible. If you think you need editing but don't know what kind, just follow the links until you reach an answer.

First question:

Have you finished writing your first draft?

YES      or      NO
